Trina was born and raised in Afghanistan and left home to complete high school at Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. She is fluent in Persian, English, and French and is familiar with Pashto and Arabic as well. Her fascination with languages led her to major in French, after which she received a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. She taught at various institutions, including the University of the District of Columbia, George Washington University, the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, Virginia, and King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She is also the author of The Faint Ringing of a Caravan Bell: An Afghan Daughter's Odyssey (with all sales proceeds donated to FEDAA.)
She is excited to implement programs that strengthen relationships among FEDAA Scholarship alumni so they can better support each other in creating a brighter future for Afghanistan.
